Assult is something that no women would like to face and fortunately there are ways in which we are able to help prevent assult from happening. It is always best to know your surroundings and stay alert if you are venturing into and area you may be unfamiliar with. Also when you go out to a bar or even a restaurant make sure that you keep and eye on your beverage and do not leave your drink unattended. Trust your instincts and if something does not feel right to you then you should probably get yourself out of the situation to avoid an issue in case something could arise. One other thing is always keep your phone charged and handy so that you are able to call someone for help or even call someone to come if you feel uncomfortable.

ReplyDeleteI agree that drinks should never be left unattended, especially during first date. Rohypnol, tasteless and odorless drug, it dissolves in liquid takes effect quickly produces memory loss for as long as eight hours. Many women have been raped after consuming a drink with drug dissolved in it (New Dimension of Women’s Health). Drugs like these can easily be mixed in drinks to make a person black out and forget things that happen. Both girls and guys who have been given these drugs report feeling paralyzed, having blurred vision, and lack of memory.

Hello Melissa,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your post. I think keeping a cautious and "healthy suspicion" about us can help protect one from a possibly dangerous situation. It is best for women to avoid being alone in dark or unfamiliar settings if possible. It is good to listen to our instincts. That "little voice" or "feeling in your gut" should not be ignored. I think we should discuss this more with each other, and those younger than us, to encourage discussion and strategies for personal safety.
Thank you,
Amy Hicks
Your ideas are really good too! I didn't even think of the phone thing but that's smart because if you are in trouble and your phone is dead then what now?? Also, I have never heard of anyone being roofied but I definitly believe that it happens and it probably happens more than you think. Scary thought. Keeping your drink next to you at a party or bar is extremely important and never let someone hold it for you. Also, make sure you either open a can yourself or watch someone make you a drink without taking your eye off it. Very smart.

Melissa,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the short and sweet post on this. Sometimes I get caught up in the moment of what is going on with or around me and lose sight or track of time or my surroundings. However, when I am out and having a drink socially or something, I definitely pay attention there...so much tragedy happens from careless drinking. Also, I hear so much on the news about women being violated in parking lots at night or broad daylight. So, whenever I am walking to my car alone or with my children no matter the time of day, I always am aware of how many cars and people are around and how good the lighting is. Parking lots make me nervous, especially the grocery store or places like Target...it's those places that are prime targes for women. Putting my children and purse in the car are priority and the rest can wait...thanks and nice job!~Heather Noe
